More than £400m boost for the Plymouth economy over the next decade

Derriford Fortside is about creating a new destination and establishing a heart for Derriford that offers a fresh and exciting sense of place.

Our vision for Derriford

Major new retail stores

The draft proposals for a new district centre include more than 300,000 sq ft of high-quality new shopping and leisure space, featuring:

A major new department store – with a customer café
A major new home store
A major new supermarket
Further shops and retail ‘pods’ – attracting the best of independent and high-street brands
Cafés, eateries and other commercial space
Artist’s impression of new homes, retail, amphitheatre garden and hotel

Features:

As part of the entertainment offer within Derriford Fortside, a major new multiplex cinema will be provided. The new cinema would feature 10-12 screens.

We will work with a specialist hotel provider to deliver a new affordable hotel, which would provide 100 new en-suite bedrooms.

The introduction of a new hotel on Derriford Fortside will bring additional new daytime and evening activity to the site, create further new jobs and boost trade for proposed shops and eateries, helping to ensure Derriford Fortside is a truly mixed-use and sustainable development.

The draft plans include approximately
160 new homes.

The homes will provide a range of affordable and private housing, including homes to rent, buy or part-buy, in a mix of houses and apartments with one, two and three bedrooms.

More than 200 car parking spaces would be provided for residents within the development (one or more for each home).

Generous public open space is at the heart of our plans for Derriford Fortside. As well as creating leisure spaces to dine, meet up and relax, our plans include;

Over 13 acres of green public open space, leading out into the Glacis woodland
A new landscaped amphitheatre garden at the centre of the retail zone – somewhere visitors can catch the best of the sunshine while looking up towards Crownhill Fort

To help make Derriford Fortside a focal point for the community, we are proposing to provide space specifically for local community use. We would welcome your ideas on what this could be used for, such as:

A community library
A health centre
A gym or leisure centre
An arts space

Plymouth City Council’s Windsor House building would be incorporated into the heart of the new district centre. Derriford Fortside would improve access to Windsor House and create new opportunities and amenities for staff and visitors.

250+ dedicated car parking spaces would be available to Windsor House staff with additional spaces available during weekdays.

What do you want to see? Please let us know your thoughts and ideas!

Should we include anything else in the plans?  Such as space for a Farmers’ Market, a skate park, or outdoor performance space?
